Yellow grease is derived from used cooking oil from the restaurant industry. It is used to feed livestock, make soap, make-up, clothes, rubber, detergents and biodiesel fuel. It is distinct from brown grease; yellow grease typically has a free fatty acid range of 1-15.
Yellow grease can also refer to lower-quality grades of tallow (cow or sheep fat) from animal rendering plants. Yellow grease has traditionally been used as an animal feed additive, but has also become a feedstock for biodiesel production. Although most biodiesel is produced from renewable plant sources, yellow grease is attractive because its use converts waste into fuel.
Brown grease is derived from many different sources of supply and has a free fatty acid value above 15. We offer this product complete or as part of blended formulas.
Tallow is a rendered form of beef or mutton fat, processed from suet. It is solid at room temperature. Unlike suet, tallow can be stored for extended periods without the need for refrigeration to prevent decomposition, provided it is kept in an airtight container to prevent oxidation.
In industry, tallow is not strictly defined as beef or mutton fat. In this context, tallow is animal fat that conforms to certain technical criteria, including its melting point. It is common for commercial tallow to contain fat derived from other animals, such as lard from pigs, or even from plant sources.
Choice White Grease:
A specific grade of mostly pork fat defined by hardness, color, fatty acid content, moisture, insolubles, unsaponifiables and free fatty acids. Choice White Grease is an excellent source of essential fatty acids and energy for the pet food, animal feed and oleo chemical industries.
